Color Run

I can now add an item to the very short list of things that will motivate me to run. I had previously thought that list was limited to life threatening pursuers, and nothing more. I might run if a crocodile behind me looked hungry and fast. Or if a speeding train was thundering towards me and I was in an inescapable gully. But, barring circumstances such as those, I didn't see an abundance of reasons to run. It's not fun. I can do double-decker Julian Michaels workouts, or Yoga and Pilates until the cows come home. But I'll pass on the running, thank you. So why did I voluntarily, and under no coercion or outside pressure, agree to do a 5k run this Saturday?

COLOR!

Kampala had it's (supposedly) first ever color run this morning. Despite all my aversion to the running, apparently color conquers all and has persuaded me that the occasion might actually be enjoyable. I started the morning still with a foreboding feeling about running, but excited to be splattered with color. And it was so much fun! It wasn't as horrible to run as I remember it being in high school PE class, I made it through all 5 km without falling over dead, and I had a great time! And we got totally covered with the colors of the Ugandan flag.

Before...

And after!

I don't think I will be joining my friend the ultra-marathon runner any time soon, but I must admit this was quite fun.
